Female Victim Knifed in Birmingham Bus Stop Assault Succumbs to Injuries
A woman who was stabbed in the neck in an unprovoked attack at a bus stop in Birmingham has died, authorities verified.
The victim, who was 34, was targeted in Smallbrook Queensway, right beside the Bullring shopping centre, just prior to 21:00 GMT on Friday, according to police statements.
The suspect, 21, appeared before Birmingham court on Monday, facing charges for the violent incident.
He was previously accused of attempted murder however after the victim's passing charges were upgraded to murder.
Law Enforcement Actions
Authorities stated police personnel will remain around the city centre on Monday providing public assurance, while detectives assisted the woman's family.
Detectives are appealing any eyewitnesses who may have seen the accused, who is described as British citizen of Black ethnicity, reportedly dressed in grey athletic wear, black hat, trainers with a backpack.
Incident Location
The stabbing happened outside Bullring retail complex, opposite the main entrance to Birmingham New Street station.
Police said they were treating it as "unprovoked attack" with investigators stating efforts continue to determine the motive behind.
Eyewitness Reports
An area worker, employed in the vicinity, described paramedic and police activity when she finished her work period at about 22:00 on Friday.
She characterized the location as extremely disorderly, adding that some of her colleagues heard loud disturbances around 9 PM.
"A lot of my colleagues use transit services, ride the tramline... our security is compromised fundamentally, here in the city centre."
Ashley Birks, twenty-five, resident of Stoke, said he came the city quite frequently to see his girlfriend who lives in the city, and was concerned regarding the incident.
"It makes me worried about my partner," he said.
"She lacks transportation and works at major concert locations... and to think something completely unprovoked occurred, you know, it's horrible."
