New England Equal Longest Victory Run From Brady Era with Triumph Over Jets
First-year player Henderson has tallied five scores in the present year
New England equaled their best victory streak since the Tom Brady period as they defeated AFC East opponents the New York Jets 27-14 in professional football
Rookie Henderson was the standout with three touchdowns as the New England squad secured an eight-game winning streak for the first time since star signal-caller Brady's final season with the team in 2019
QB Drake Maye passed for 281 yards and a TD, completing 25 passes from 34 throws
The triumph bolsters the Patriots lead at the summit of the AFC East as they advanced to nine victories against two losses, with the New York at the foot after slipping to a 2-8 mark
The Jets had scored first at Gillette Stadium with QB Fields scoring a short rushing score to conclude the New York's opening drive
But the Patriots answered in the second period as the rookie scored two seven-yard TDs before the ball carrier hauled in a throw from Drake Maye at the rear of the endzone in the middle of the third period to extend the lead to 21-7
"That was a crucial moment for him delivering, and it's been fantastic for him to keep gaining experience," Maye said of the rookie. "He desires to be excellent."
Fields connected with Metchie late in the third quarter to close the gap for the visitors but Andy Borregales booted a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter as the Patriots wrapped up the win
