The US Firm's Self-Driving Vehicles Planned for London Streets Next Year.

The US-based enterprise Waymo has declared that its self-driving taxis will be available for use on London's thoroughfares starting next year.

London Becomes First European City for Self-Driving Taxi Service.

London will emerge as the inaugural European city to host an autonomous taxi service, akin to those already in use in multiple US cities and four other American cities utilizing Waymo's advanced systems.

Initial Operations to Commence with Trained Operators.

Waymo announced that its fleet are currently traveling to London and will start driving on the capital's roads in the coming weeks with safety drivers in control.

The company – initially created as a derivative from the tech giant's self-driving car project and belonging to the same parent group – explained it would expand operations and work closely with the government transport body and London's transport agency to acquire the necessary licenses to deliver completely driverless rides by 2026.

Growing Involvement in Self-Driving Mobility Across London.

Additional companies, including Uber and the UK-based technology firm Wayve, have additionally announced their own strategies to test self-driving cabs in the city next year.

This follows the British government confirming it would speed up guidelines enabling real-world tests to occur before laws supporting autonomous cars passes in full.

It is furthermore starting operations in Tokyo using Jaguar Land Rover electric vehicles, marking its second current operation beyond the United States.

Waymo began its self-driving cabs in 2020 and currently states it has carried more than a vast number of riders in the US.
